Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Sunday called on party workers in Telangana to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots and launch an extensive door-to-door campaign ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, asserting that only the BJP could free the state from “corruption, dynastic politics and appeasement.”
Addressing a meeting of booth presidents in Hyderabad, Nabin urged party workers to reach every household, contact every voter and seek public support for the BJP in the municipal polls. He said the party’s electoral strategy would focus on winning booths by maintaining continuous engagement with people and ensuring that beneficiaries receive the benefits of Central government welfare schemes.
“The strength of the BJP lies in its grassroots workers,” Nabin said, adding that booth-level organisation remained the foundation of the party’s growth.
He alleged that the Congress government in Telangana had failed to fulfil its election promises, particularly those related to employment for youth. He also accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of corruption and obstructing the state’s development.
Elections for a few major civic bodies, including, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC), Khammam, and Siddipet, are expected to take place in the latter half of 2026.
Referring to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other municipal elections expected in the state, Nabin said the BJP would contest them as the first step towards expanding its political presence in Telangana.
Calling Hyderabad by its historical name, Bhagyanagar, he said the city’s “destiny” could change only under BJP leadership and appealed to workers to connect with every family, youth, woman, trader and beneficiary of Central government schemes.
Nabin also outlined organisational priorities for booth presidents, including ensuring voter enrolment, maintaining regular public contact and expanding the party’s outreach across all sections of society.
The BJP leader credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government with delivering welfare schemes and infrastructure projects in Telangana. He cited the Centre’s financial support for projects including the Uppal elevated corridor, MMTS Phase-II, railway development, the Kazipet railway manufacturing unit, AIIMS Bibinagar and the Civil Aviation Research Centre.
He also referred to national schemes such as PM SVANidhi, Ayushman Bharat and the free foodgrain programme, saying Telangana had benefited from them. Nabin further highlighted investments in startups, infrastructure and manufacturing while praising the Centre’s focus on national security, artificial intelligence and semiconductor development.
Attacking previous state governments, Nabin cited the Kaleshwaram project and the Medigadda barrage as examples of alleged corruption, claiming public trust had eroded following the sinking of the Medigadda pillars. He said a “double-engine government” would restore development and public confidence in the state.
Nabin criticised parties that, according to him, pursued religion-based politics instead of development and asserted that the BJP believed in “nationalism” rather than dynasty or appeasement politics.
He also paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and recalled BJP leaders’ support for the creation of Telangana, including former Union minister Sushma Swaraj’s advocacy for statehood in Parliament. Referring to former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao on his birth anniversary, Nabin accused the Congress of failing to accord him due respect after his tenure and said the Modi government had carried forward projects associated with him, including the railway manufacturing unit at Kazipet.
Nabin urged party workers to remain united and work towards securing victory in the municipal elections, saying the campaign would lay the foundation for the BJP’s broader political ambitions in Telangana ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
The meeting was attended by Telangana BJP president N. Ramchandra Rao, Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BJP National Vice-President D.K. Aruna, National General Secretary and Telangana in-charge Sunil Bansal, National OBC Morcha President K. Laxman and other party leaders.
