About 10 million children affected by humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, 300,000 displaced: UNICEF

At least 10 million children are affected by the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan since Taliban fighters swiftly took control of the country following exit of the US forces, according to the UNICEF

The number of children displaced amid the prevailing crisis in Afghanistan has reached 300,000, the UN agency said.

It also sent out an SOS to its partners across the globe to join hands with it to help these children and their family members.

“About 10 million children  are affected by the humanitarian crisis going on (in Afghanistan,” regional director of the UNICEF South Asia George Laryea-Adjei said in a video message on Twitter on Saturday.
These children need “urgent assistance”, he said.

“In addition, there are some 300,000 children who have been displaced from their homes,” he said
These children “urgently” need water, food and medical care, he added.

George asserted that UNICEF will stay on the ground to help children and families affected by the prevailing crisis in Afghanistan.

“We are here to stay and deliver,” he said

“We call upon our all partners to join hands with us so (that) we deliver assistance to the children and their families,” George added.
