Covid 19: Delhi Health Minister’s condition worsens, to undergo plasma therapy

NEW DELHI: Condition of Delhi health minister Satyendra Jain worsened on Friday three days after he tested positive for Covid-19.

Fifty-five year old Jain, who was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) here in the national capital on Tuesday after sudden drop in his oxygen levels with high-grade fever, will undergo plasma therapy.

For this, he was shifted to the Max Hospital’s facility located in Saket area of south Delhi from RGSSH.

“His (Jain’s) latest CT scan report shows that the pneumonia patches in his lungs have increased. He experienced increased giddiness and tiredness today,” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, adding “The advice of doctors will be followed”.

Jain had been on the forefront of Delhi’s fight against the novel corona virus since the pandemic, originating from China’s wet market in Wuhan, entered India while spreading across the world.

Being at the helm of affairs at Delhi government’s health ministry, he had been making regular field visits and holding a number of meetings each day to ensure that anti-covid 19 strategy was implemented properly.

With Jain testing positive, the health department swung into action to track down people who came in contact with the Cabinet minister recently. These people will be quarantined and tested.

Jain had attended a high-level meeting in the national capital on the covid-19 situation on June 14. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had chaired the meeting. Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal, Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan were among those who had attended the meeting.
